The Sturgeon Full Moon is Almost Here! Learn to Harness its Power

The Sturgeon full moon will present itself on August 25th, 26th, and 27th, 2018

These will be the most powerful days to set your heartfelt intentions and utilize the power of the moon.

The Sturgeon full moon got its name because, throughout history, there has been an abundance of Sturgeon fish at this time of year. There are at least three different names for each moon and usually, the names have to do with what type of food source is plentiful at that specific time.

Full moons are powerful times to release that which no longer serve us. The Sturgeon full moon is in Pisces and governed by creativity, intuition, psychic abilities, creativity, and sensuality. To tap into these areas of focus, we will bring awareness to our second chakra which holds a very similar energy to this moon.

Our second chakra is located in the pelvic bowl and is called the sacral or Svadhisthana chakra. We can access our creativity and sensuality here by tapping into our intuition and psychic abilities. When we’re connected to our creativity and sensuality, we are in the “flow” – in alignment with something greater than our ego. We’re more deeply connected to Source.

Try these yoga poses, activities, and foods to access the power of the second chakra and harness the Sturgeon full moon energy and power to lead you even closer to living your best life. Getting deep into the hips, hamstrings, and heart-opening postures can have a great impact on our chakra system as a whole, specifically the second chakra.

Take action

Combine these elements into a full moon in Pisces practice in whatever way feels natural for you. If you’re not ready to completely make something up on your own, you can follow my example. This is what I’ll be doing when the Pisces full moon arrives.

Since the full moon is a good time to release, it’s a good time to think about what you are needing or ready to release that’s keeping you from reaching your highest self. Focus specifically on the areas of creativity, sensuality, and sexuality.

Take a bath with any of the essential oils listed above or any that you love (we’re a big fan of Angel blend by VIDA essentials). When you’re finished, drain the water and watch it leave the tub. Visualize it taking anything away with it that’s holding you back.

You may choose to set the stage for your ritual by creating a special altar. You can place anything that inspires you on this altar, such as crystals that call to you, a bowl of water, images of people you love, etc. There is no right or wrong way to do any of this.

To begin your ceremony, start by meditating either to a guided meditation or by setting a timer for 10-15 minutes. If setting a timer, just breathe deeply to get settled into the present moment. Turn your inner focus to your second chakra. You may want to imagine the color orange swirling and flowing freely throughout the area of the second chakra. Breathe and visualize until the timer goes off.

Next, journal about what is holding you back here. Ask yourself these questions:

If I could create anything, what would it be?
If I could create in any type of medium, what would that be?
What artistic endeavor did I love to do when I was a child?
What type of art do I love to consume?
How can I show my creative side besides through artwork?
Do I have a healthy sex life?
Do I feel like a sexual being?
Am I able to express my sexuality in a balanced way?

After you’re finished with this part of journaling, move onto writing about what your dream life would look like if you were totally tapped into your creative and sensual sides. When you’ve written at least one page, set it aside, close your eyes and sit with what you wrote for about 5-10 minutes, followed by showing gratitude for all that is coming your way.

By committing to monthly rituals, you will become more in tune with the world around you, especially the energy currents that run through it. The powerful moon energies affect us whether we realize it or not so it’s a good idea to use them to your advantage instead of getting swept away with them.

Good luck on your Sturgeon full moon journey. We want to hear all about it!
