Kirsten Joranlien & Brandon Arndt (@acroadventures)
How long have you been practicing yoga?
Kirsten: I have been seriously practicing yoga for 2 years and AcroYoga for 1.5 years, though I did occasional classes for a few years before that.
How did you get started?
Kirsten: I got started with yoga through my journey to get fit about 3 years ago. At first I didn’t find yoga classes challenging enough so it didn’t stick. I eventually tried more advanced classes that incorporated inversions and arm balances and became hooked!
What do you enjoy about yoga?
Kirsten: I love how yoga connects my mind and body, and always provides a way to go deeper in my practice.
What does the term “yoga” mean to you?
Kirsten: Yoga is a way of life; it means self love, it means community, it means strength.
What advice would like to give beginners?
Kirsten: Advice I would tell beginner yogis is to be teachable – listen to your teachers, learn about alignment and form, listen to your body and what it needs, and keep practicing! Be content where you are in your practice but also be bold enough to push your limits and get stronger.
What else would you like to tell our readers? Maybe you have some funny/ interesting/inspirational stories about yoga.
Kirsten: The first time I tried AcroYoga was at an open jam right when a new community was starting, so we were all new to it. That first jam filled my extroverted heart to the brim and I couldn’t wait to go back. Acroyoga is both challenging and playful, and takes a lot of communication between base and flyer – making it great for couples, friends, or getting to know someone new!
