CBD oil benefits are causing a massive ripple
CBD oil is the new collagen, making it an ingredient in every latest wellness product. It’s said to have major anxiety and pain management properties. To be crystal clear, cannabidiol (CBD) oil is not marijuana. So what is it, and should we be adding it to our wellness routine?
Differentiating the Two
Marijuana contains both THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD. THC is the chemical that provides that mind-altering high when broken down by heat and consumed by the body, whether that’s through smoking the plant or cooking it into foods. CBD, however, is not psychoactive. It does not change the state of mind of the person who uses it. It does appear to produce significant changes in the body, making it of particular interest recently to medical practitioners. Cannabidiol is fast becoming a popular natural remedy used for many common ailments.
CBD oil is extracted from the resin glands on cannabis buds and flowers. It can also be extracted from hemp, which is an industrial form of cannabis that has small buds and a THC concentration of 0.3% or less. It’s then usually diluted with a carrier oil, such as hemp seed oil.
CBD Oil benefits include:
- Chronic pain relief
- Decreased anxiety and depression
- Reduced inflammation
- Stress reduction
- Weight management
- Improved heart health
- Improved acne
- Pain management
- Neurological protection
- Cancer protection
- Nausea relief
CBD oil can now be found in different products like drops, capsules, syrups, teas, lotions, and creams. The FDA has not approved any CBD products for any specific purpose yet, so the production, labeling, and distribution of CBD products aren’t currently subject to federal regulation.
In addition, CBD oil is not legally sold everywhere. Seventeen states in the US have approved the use of low THC and high CBD products for medical reasons. Specific requirements and conditions must be met in order to use CBD legally, and these vary from state to state. A way products are going around these regulations is by labeling their items with hemp oil, such as this hemp salve by VIDA Essentials.
Should You Use It?
If you suffer from any of the ailments listed above, CBD oil might help. CBD is tolerated well by most, however, everyone reacts a little differently. Some possible negative side-effects include:
- Anxiety and depression
- Dry mouth
- Changes in liver function
Before you start using CBD oil, discuss it with your doctor to ensure your safety and avoid potential interactions with current medications. And of course, make sure you have legal access to it.
